The Hawaii State Board of Education (Board) shall have the power, as provided by law, to formulate policy and to exercise control over the public school system and public library system through its executive officers, the superintendent of education and the state librarian, both of whom shall be appointed by the board; except that the board shall have jurisdiction in a manner consistent with general laws. (Reference: Constitution of the State of Hawaii, Article X, Section 3; Act 150, SLH 1981). The functions of the Board of Education are described in the Hawaii Revised Statutes.
The Board consists of 10 members.
BOARD STANDING COMMITTEES: The function of board standing committees is to review, to deliberate, and to submit advisory reports to the board, on all matters referred by the board or the board chairperson, or on other matters, within their respective subject areas, which are as follows:
