Mission
The mission of the Hawaii State Board of Education is to promote excellence and equity in Hawaii’s public schools and enable all students to meet their own unique and varied potentials.
Vision
Hawaii’s public schools are institutions of learning that parents want their children to attend and students want to attend. All schools, regardless of size, are safe, nurturing learning communities where members work together and all students achieve high academic standards and become contributing members of society.

Mission
The mission of the Hawaii State Board of Education is to promote excellence and equity in public library services so that all individuals can meet their reading, information, and lifelong learning needs.
Vision
Hawaii’s public libraries are safe, inviting, resource-rich learning environments engaging the minds and enhancing the lives of all community members.

Goals for Hawaii’s Public Schools and Hawaii’s Public Libraries
Goal 1 Acquire and realign the resources necessary to achieve and maintain a strong instructional program for high levels of student success in Hawaii’s public schools.
Goal 2 Build partnerships and communications with the community to generate strong support for high levels of student success in Hawaii’s public schools.
Goal 3 Provide quality school and library facilities for teaching and lifelong learning.
Goal 4 Recruit and retain high quality and effective teaching, leadership, and support staff to enable high levels of student success in Hawaii’s public schools.
Goal 5 Provide safe and secure schools and libraries.
Goal 6 Provide alternative programs to meet diverse needs and to promote success for all students in Hawaii’s public schools.
Goal 7 Provide the Department of Education and the Hawaii State Public Library System with technological equipment and infrastructure, as well as staff development opportunities, to enable all citizens to use the tools of the 21st Century and to assure job proficiency, college readiness, and lifelong learning.
Goal 8 Improve Board of Education operations to enable effective policy- and decision-making, accountability, and excellent governance for Hawaii’s public schools.
